What is Aircraft Dispatch?
Introduction
A dispatcher must be certified by the aviation authority of the country in which they operate, in the United States it’s the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In order to obtain a certificate, a candidate must demonstrate extensive knowledge of meteorology and of aviation in general, to a level comparable to the holder of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate. For airlines operating under 14 CFR PART 135, dispatching duties and responsibilities are actually designated to "flight followers." The main difference between a flight dispatcher and a flight follower is that latter does not share legal responsibility for the operation of a flight. The Aviation Institute of Technology's Aircraft Dispatcher Course offered by Polk State College is an excellent first step into the growing world of commercial aviation. This course is suitable for those with or without prior flight experience. The teaching is enhanced by the team of experienced dispatchers, pilots, and ATC controllers providing real world examples to go along with each day's lesson material.
I would and have already recommended this program to many of my friends! Its challenging yet rewarding with many benefits for a future in aviation. I am so happy I took a leap of faith and completed the 5-week course. My instructor, Adam was very informative and knew the material in depth. Everything was explained in a clear yet concise manner which helped me prepare for all my exams!
The instructor was patient, caring, thoughtful and a true professional. He took materials that were demanding, formidable and at times taxing, and presented them in a manner that made them easily understandable. Mr. Aboueid exemplifies what all students hope for in an instructor.
Having attended another Dispatcher program prior to my enrollment at the AIT, I found the curriculum to be informative, yet light years less stressful. The course placed a heavy emphasis on the most important points. Instructional staff however is dedicated to the student’s success by preparing them for everything they can expect to encounter on the ADX and on the Practical exam.
